The Murder of a Beauty Pageant Queen

There have been many speculations about the murder of the young pageant queen, Jon Benet Ramsey, from the parents murdering her to the brother. Jon Benet Ramsey was a pageant queen who was tragically murdered on the night of Christmas 1996 at the age of six. Let us look at the variety of theories and figure out which one makes the most sense.

Jon Benet was a very lovable person and was very nice to everyone around her. According to biography.com, people described Jon Benet as “an outgoing girl who enjoyed being the center of attention, she also had an amazing charisma, beautiful bouncy blond hair, a poised smile, and glittery costumes which helped her win many pageants” (Worthen 1). Her friend and pageant competitor, Thumper Ghazni, gave an interview to "ABC 2020” also stating that “Jon Benet was the nicest girl, she was also very poised in all the things she did” (“The Day Jon Benet Ramsey was found Dead:Part 1”). Jon Benet began her pageant career at the early age of four, according to a family friend named Pam Bardy (“The Day Jon Benet Ramsey Was Found Dead:Part 1”). Patsy’s friend, Judith Philips, gave an interview to the network ID and said “Jon Benet was sweet, smart, funny, loved to play tricks on people, and a lot of fun to be around” (1). Most of Jon Benet's pageant videos show her being a bubbly little girl. Her mother always had her wearing big puffy dresses with lots of ruffles and her hair was always big and curly. Everyone enjoyed being around Jon Benet because she had an amazing and bubbly personality. Everyone around her especially her fellow pageant competitors described little Jon Benet as a smart little girl and if she would have got the chance to grow up, she would have been the older version of her young self. All the home and pageant videos show all of Jon Benet's charisma and personality. There’s not one video showing young Jon Benet being upset or even being anything but kind to everyone around her

The first conspiracy theory is that Jon Benet's parents killed her. According to The Rolling Stone the theory goes that the mother, Patsy Ramsey, accidently killed her after a rage because Jon Benet wet the bed (Lovitt). The Rolling Stone hypothesized “Patsy slammed Jon Benet's head against the side of a hard, blunt surface like a bathtub, then Jon Benet was found with a rope around her neck tightened by a homemade garrote” (Lovitt).

Dyan Diamond, a reporter who has been covering the case since the beginning, says that the first thing Jon Benet's mother, Patsy, saw after going down the stairs was a three-page ransom note saying that the kidnapper demanded $118,000 which was close to what John Ramsey had received as his bonus that year (“The Day Jon Benet Ramsey Was Found Dead: Part 1”). Dyan and many reporters say that Patsy almost immediately got on the phone with all her neighbors and friends telling them to go over to the house after she reported Jon Benet missing. By Patsy having that many people in her house and touching items, they could be tampering with evidence (“The Day Jon Benet Ramsey Was Found Dead: Part 1”). Dyan also said that the police did not do their job by not securing the scene and not ordering everyone out. It was also odd that the first detective who arrived at the scene asked John to look around the house to see if anything was missing. John immediately went down to the basement and found the body of his daughter, Jon Benet, covered in a white blanket with her hands tied above her head and tape over her mouth (“The Day Jon Benet Ramsey was Found Dead: Part 1”). Detectives said, “the biggest mistake John did was to pick up Jon Benet's body and take it upstairs, remove the tape, and cover her with a different blanket; when he did this, he tainted the police report” (“The Day Jon Benet Ramsey was Found Dead: Part 1”). After Jon Benet's body was found, the police saw that she was strangled with a garrote. She was also hit on the head with great force, and there was evidence of sexual assault (“The Day Jon Benet Ramsey was Found Dead: Part 1”). Reporters and investigators thought it was odd that John got on the phone with his pilot to get the family out of town and back to Atlanta, Georgia. Right after they buried Jon Benet, the Ramsey's gave an interview to CNN but refused to give the police any interviews. The Ramsey’s lawyers demanded to know every question they would ask them (“Police Search for Jon Benet Ramsey’s Killed: Part 2”).

The second conspiracy theory is that her brother, Burke, may have killed her because of jealousy and Jon Benet eating a piece of his pineapple was the last straw. After the autopsy was performed on Jon Benet there was undigested pineapple (Pollack1). Also stated by Pollack, Burke had an unusual behavior during an interview with a child psychologist the days following her death. He had previously been violent a week before her death, hitting her with a golf club (Pollack1). The forensic team also believe that the tussle between the two kids was unsupervised which led Burke to hitting her over the head with a blunt object and eventually killing her (Pollack1). Forensics believe that after Jon Benet took a piece of pineapple he could of struck her over the head with a heavy flashlight, intentionally or unintentionally bashing Jon Benet's skull (Pollock1). After the possibility of a home invasion was ruled out by evidence the only other theory remaining was the pineapple one (Pollock1). The parents may have created the ransom note and staged the kidnapping to protect Burke from being accused of murdering his sister (Pollock1). Burke went on an interview, after twenty years, with Dr. Phil to “clear the air” (Lovitt1). While in the interview Burke had a creepy grin. After CBS aired the two-part documentary, “The Case of: Jon Benet Ramsey”, “The documentary leaned their suspicions towards Burke Ramsey as close as they possibly could without making any kind of formal accusations (Lovitt1).

In conclusion, after much research the conspiracy that makes the most sense is that her brother Burke killed Jon Benet because he was jealous. The brother may have accidentally killed her, and her parents did their best to help cover Burke’s murder and shield him from the media so he would be blamed for the horrible thing he did. Although Burke was so young, he still had enough force to kill his young sister. There has been many evidence showing Burke was jealous of Jon Benet because she was getting all the attention from both of their parents. Therefore, the most logical conspiracy this that burke killed her out of jealousy.
